How this can work
A research organization may need a comparison of historical constituency results, a survey dashboard or an explanation of changes in turnout and vote share. We distinguish descriptive analysis from forecasts and explain comparability when boundaries or survey methods change.
Project process
- Define geography, questions, time period and permitted data
- Review sources, survey method and data comparability
- Analyze aggregate patterns and document uncertainty
Questions buyers ask about psephology and election data analysis
Is psephology the same as predicting a winner?
No. It also includes explaining historical results, turnout, constituency patterns and public opinion. Any forecast needs a stated method and uncertainty; it is not a certainty.
Which data sources do you use?
Published election results and statistical reports, census and other official aggregate data, and surveys that the client lawfully commissions or holds. Every report lists its sources and their limits.
How do you compare results when constituency boundaries change?
Comparisons across delimitation changes are flagged, and where areas cannot be matched reliably the report says so instead of forcing a comparison.
How do you report survey results?
With the sample size, method, dates and an uncertainty range, so readers can judge how much weight an estimate can carry.
Do you profile or target individual voters?
No. The service covers aggregate research and analysis only. It does not include persuasion targeting or profiling of individuals.
Can survey or election findings be published during an election?
Publication rules apply. For example, the Election Commission of India prohibits publishing exit poll results during notified periods. Publication timing is planned around the applicable rules.
How to send your requirement
Include as much of this as you can. Rough answers are fine.
- The research question in one or two sentences
- Geography: state, parliamentary or assembly constituency, ward or district
- The elections and years to cover
- Datasets you already hold, and the basis on which you hold them
- Survey questionnaire and sample design, if a survey is involved
- Whether results are for internal use or publication, and any poll dates that affect timing
